Value Creation Challenge 2021 Now Open! Apply fast

Value Creation Challenge (VCC) has been launched by the Eight2Five Innovation Hub powered by Old Mutual in partnership with the British Council. VCC is a nationwide opportunity set up to support businesses and start-ups that provide innovative and sustainable solutions to socio-economic and environmental challenges.

The target for this year’s challenge are young businesses and startups that fall under the following pillars:

  • Data Analytics,
  • Emerging Technology,
  • Digital Content Creation,
  • Climate Action,
  • Young and Funky.

The Challenge & Eligibility

  • The Eight2Five Value Creation Challenge is a nationwide challenge powered by Old Mutual which wants to support businesses and ideas that transform how they do business, help address socio-economic issues and improve the society of Zimbabwe as a whole.
  • The Challenge is open, without charge, to any citizen of Zimbabwe between the ages of eighteen (18) and forty-five (45).
  • The applicants shall complete the application process to enter the challenge which is found on the dedicated website.
  • Employees of the Old Mutual group or family members of an employee of the Old Mutual group shall not qualify for the challenge.
  • The Applicant should have ownership rights over the business or idea they submit for the challenge.

The Evaluation Process

The evaluation shall be done in 5 key steps as follows:

  • Viability of Business Model;
  • Traction;
  • Potential for growth;
  • Short term and long-term competition risk;
  • Market Risk Team Risk.

The evaluation shall be done in 5 key steps as follows:

  • Applications will be considered by a selected committee according to the selection criteria during the first half of July 2021.
  • The selected applicants will be informed by email within 7 working days of the closing date, and must respond within 7 days to proceed to the next stage of the Challenge.
  • Selected applicants will undergo phone interviews in July 2021. Those that pass the phone interviews will be shortlisted and notified via email.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to on-site (or virtual) workshops in June 2021.
  • Following the workshops, the shortlisted applicants will be invited to a pitch to be part of the Accelerator Program. The pitch will be held in the last week of July 2021 and those selected to participate in the accelerator program will be announced shortly after.
  • The Accelerator Program will run from August 2021 to November 2021.
